Not sure what to make as a side dish for dinner tonight? How about a Caesar salad? Caesar salads pair well with Italian dishes, such as spaghetti and pizza. They also go well with steak, chicken and seafood. Yep, they go with everything! You can even serve Caesar salads as your main course – just top with grilled chicken or shrimp.
My recipe is super simple to make. One word of warning though – if you like to make everything from scratch, this recipe isn’t for you! I use store bought croutons and dressing for this quick side dish. Maybe when the kiddos are grown and I’m retired, I will make everything from scratch, but honestly, who has time for that right now? (Not me!) And the Hubs is happy with this recipe, so why make more work for myself…
Here is what you will need for this quick five minute Caesar salad recipe:
- romaine lettuce, rinsed and chopped into bite-sized pieces
- shredded parmesan cheese (NOT the grated stuff)
- Caesar salad dressing (I like Marzetti’s Supreme Caesar. You can usually find it in the refrigerated dressings section by the produce.)
- any other (optional) veggies that you want to include
Once you have all the ingredients, it’s time to put everything together. I’m not sure how others make their Caesar salads. However, this is the method that I learned many years ago, when I worked as a server at Applebee’s restaurant…
Time to “shake it up”:
Place all the ingredients together in a large bag or lidded bowl, even the dressing. I’m not going to tell you how much of each ingredient to use. This will depend on:
- how many salads you are making;
- how big your mixing bag or bowl is; and
- your personal taste preference
However, I always use a light hand when pouring in the dressing – if needed, you can always add more after the next step.
Seal the bag or put the lid on your bowl. Now shake it all up! Next, take a peek inside. If everything looks well tossed, dump the mix into individual serving bowls. Garnish with a little more shredded parmesan cheese and a few more croutons.
That’s it! I think it’s faster than using a drive-through to get a fast food Caesar salad – and it tastes better! Hope you enjoy!
