Who doesn’t have piles of newspaper sitting around? Well, I actually just threw a bunch in my recycling bin, but now I’m thinking about pulling it all back out, after seeing this tutorial for DIY newspaper gift bags from Jessica at How About Orange. Such a clever idea!
Yes, scraplifters, even we can make these! They’re very simple to assemble – if you can cut, fold and glue, you can do it! Jessica used two newspaper sheets to make each bag, which measure 5″ high, 4.5″ wide, and 3″ deep. Both the rim of the bag and the bottom are reinforced with chipboard. She punched holes in the top and added eyelets (the Crop-A-Dile is a good tool to have on hand for this part) and then added cord for the handles.
I’m thinking about making several to have on hand. These cost much less than store bought gift bags, and they are a great way to recycle newspapers!
Anyway, you are probably anxious to see the tutorial, so here it is…
