Dixie Cup LED Party Lights

Here is another fun way to decorate using your scrapbook paper stash – Dixie cup LED party lights!  Aren’t they stunning?

The pastel ones pictured here (scraplifted from Hey Gorg)  would be perfect to decorate for a wedding or a sweet sixteen birthday party.  However, it all depends on the paper you use – this is an idea you can use for Halloween, Christmas, even St. Patrick’s Day and the 4th of July.  It would also be a fun way to decorate a baby nursery or play room.

When making this project, be sure to use only LED light strings.   According to Consumer Reports, LED light strings not only burn cooler, they pose less of a fire risk and actually last longer than incandescent lights.  You can read Consumer Reports’ overview here: Holiday Lights: Incandescent vs. LED.

Now that we covered that, let’s get back to our crafty matters here.  To make these, you will want to carefully take apart one of your Dixie cups and use it as a template for cutting your patterned paper.  Adhere the paper cutouts to the cups using double sided tape or a tape runner.  Finally, cut a small “x” in the bottom of each cup using an Exacto knife, so that you can slip the cup over the light bulb.

Hey Gorg has a tutorial on their site for how to make these.  Lot of pictures are included, so check it out…
